Commercial Manager - Coventry City Council
Coventry

The Role

North Coventry Holdings (NCH) Limited is a unique body, engaged in providing business development services to Coventry City Council. A wholly owned subsidiary of the council, it was created to identify, demonstrate and drive forward commercial opportunities that will support Coventry City Council to achieve greater, sustainable commercial outcomes from its broad asset base. Core to its role is supporting a culture change, to drive commercial thinking within all service decisions.

Set against the context of an increasing need for local government to have, and to execute, a commercialisation strategy, NCH has been adopting innovative ways to generate growth through identifying new business opportunities such that Coventry City Council is able to continue to deliver effectively for its local communities.

In recent years, NCH has been successful in taking forward and successfully delivering a number of commercial ventures and initiatives that have created sustainable commercial outcomes that serve to reduce support budget pressures on front line services in Coventry. These have included the acquisition and transformation of a number of leisure operations, driving growth in traded services, delivery of a Go Ape course in Coventry, securing of material advertising and sponsorship income, and the current development of a £35m waste recycling plant. Other projects include the development of a light rail system for Coventry, strategic business acquisition, and further development of leisure and visitor attractions.

There are a significant number of projects in the pipeline, further activities and sectors to consider for development, as well as ongoing service lead mentoring and change management to support the commercialisation agenda. This activity requires the appointment of a new commercial manager who will work alongside the Commercial Business Director to support the planning, co-ordination and development of sustainable income growth activity across the Council through proactively identifying and acting on business growth/commercial opportunities.

Your sector background is less important than your attitude, experience, resilience and approach to generating income opportunities. You will be innovative, financially, astute and commercially strong and driven. You will identify with our values and be adept at working with clients, customers, partners and stakeholders including elected members to help deliver the Councils objectives.

If you are excited by this opportunity and your values and ambition resonate with ours, and you believe you can deliver sustainable commercial outcomes across the broadest range of assets and services, then we look forward to receiving your application.
