The Rosalind Franklin Institute (RFI) is a new national research centre designed to develop and accelerate the application of disruptive technologies and next-generation physical science methods that will underpin future advances in the life sciences.

Formally announced by the UK Government in 2017, as part of its Industrial Strategy, and backed by over £100 million in investment, the Institute will draw on expertise from leading universities across the UK, together with industry and major facilities.

As Chief Operating Officer (COO) you will partner with the Institute Director to deliver the Institute’s strategy across the range of its activities. Reflecting the world-class ambitions of RFI, the COO will be capable of delivering a world-class and service-oriented experience to all its patrons. S/he will develop and oversee a model of business processes and effective leadership, in turn delivering high performance services while creating a respectful and collaborative culture. The RFI is partnered with world class universities and the COO must build strong mutually beneficial relationships and work closely with colleagues and external stakeholders including business and industry.

The Rosalind Franklin Institute is seeking an outstanding individual to be its Chief Operating Officer. Candidates will have senior level experience of leading complex organisations with a strong reputation for high professional standards and excellent performance. You will relish working in a dynamic and research focussed environment and will have significant experience of building, managing, developing and motivating skilled teams to create and maintain a high performance culture.

You will have senior experience of the development and delivery of strategic plans within a multi-faceted organisation. You will have commercial acumen with a proven track record in driving growth and generating income, coupled with financial acumen, and the ability to oversee budgets at senior level. You will have a record of influencing a wide range of internal and external relationships.

Cross-sector experience is valued and desirable.
